A Praying Plan…

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

A Light in the Darkness, March 7, 2020

… our world is in crisis and so she needs our prayers.

The National Day Prayer Task force has presented this beautifully written prayer.  Please read it. Pray it! Use it to its fullest.  Allow it to suggest to you, direct you and inspire. Use it any way you desire … but use it!  Our world needs our knees bent in prayer each and every day and now that God’s Earth has a rampant virus seeking and destroying she needs our prayers to her Creator even more.

I’d like to share how I am praying over this situation. This may seem rather in-eloquent and rote to you but I needed a process so I am sharing.  It really is my heart’s desire that you join in the praying, not because I asked or presented a way that may make some sense to follow, but because humanity needs us to beseech our God on her behalf and our God has told us to come to Him.  He said it; Jesus himself said it:  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29) My friends, many souls are sick, weary and in need of Jesus’ yoke.  They need rest.  Let us come together and ask Him believing confidently that He means every word He has said! He does mean every single one, you know! After all Ephesians 6:18 says, “ And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

And so, with all this in mind, here is my plan …

Below is the National Day of Prayer prayer.  It is good, thorough, beautifully worded and blankets this pandemic in an extraordinary way, but for me, it scatters my thoughts in too many directions; too many on which for me to focus, so I will minimize in order to maximize. Each time I pray, I will pray to bold-font greeting to our Heavenly Father and choose one of the petitions (notice that I’ve numbered them) and take that petition in whatever thoroughness the Holy Spirit should dictate and finish with the bold-font closing at the end of the NDP prayer.

After this, I will pray the prayer that Jesus taught us; the Lord’s Prayer.  Why would I do this after all the specific praying is completed? Because there is no prayer more complete, more whole or more fully actionable by our God than His own words asked back to Him.  He knows them, understands them just as He knows us, our love for Him and our intent in praying it toward the benefit of humanity as we seek His will and use His words to ask for His healing favor and blessing on His world. I love that Jesus will hear the prayers of sinful man for sinful man in an effort to heal sinful man.  It just seems nonsensical, yet it is true.  This is Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit answering – who are we to question? We aren’t; we are to love and obey.  We do it because He said so!

So again … I will:
1. Pray the Opening
2. Choose one of the numbered petitions to pray over (#7 is very personally mine today)
3. Pray the Closing
4. Pray the Lord’s Prayer

I hope you join me and if you do, consider letting me know … somehow, somewhere, someday. 🙂  What joy to have had you as a partner!

Remember, we are all in this space and time together. No matter what, never forget that Jesus is with us every step of the way. There is no path that we are on that He does not already know about or has not already walked. Listen to the link below and hear one of my favorite reminders of Jesus’ constant presence. I love this piece and play a very simplified version on my piano quite often.  I am blessed and comforted by it in an extraordinary way.

Heavenly Father, we turn, not panic, in response to this pandemic. We praise You as our Almighty Creator and sustainer. You are the Author of our days, our refuge and strength.

Lord we humbly ask you to push back and remove this virus from us; glorify Yourself in this national and global emergency. We cry out to  You in unified prayer.

For those who have lost family and friends from this virus, please comfort them and for those who are currently sick, we implore You to heal them.

For those who are filled with fear and anxiety in the uncertainty of what to do, or in isolation of quarantine, we ask that You be their courage and that they would acknowledge Your presence. Thank You for being our God who will never leave us or forsake us.

For those who are not able to go to work and earn a paycheck, we ask You to provide for their needs. Please connect them with services who are providing food and other resources at this time.

For those who are researching and responding to the pandemic, we ask that You pour out your wisdom, knowledge and understanding in them and through them.

Please incline our ears to truth and give us steadfast hearts as our confidence is in You.
Give us discernment to divide rumor from reality, and help us to make wise decisions and listen to good information.

For all hospital and nursing home staff, doctors, nurses lab technicians, first responders, military personnel, and everyone who is at risk to exposure as they serve and care for those who are or may have been infected. Please protect them and give them and their families peace as they serve. Help them keep patients calm as they work and walk in faith in You.

Lord, help us always to respond with love to our neighbors.  Prompt us to check on those near and dear to us as well as neighbors we might not have met yet who might need our help. Help us remember those around us who are most vulnerable to this virus and to help them by bringing them groceries or other things that will help keep them from exposure.

For those who are making decisions about closures and cancellations, we ask that You guide them to consider what is best for people not for profit. Lord that we may trust You and make the safest decisions for the populations they serve, teach, entertain and employ. Continue to pour out your creativity on us in the methods of staying connected and  productive through technology.

We pray that this unprecedented time in our generation would be used to draw nearer to You and our families. Turn our attention to the many times we have thought or said, “we don’t have enough time to _________” Help us to use this time to rightly reset and prioritize our relationship with You and our family. Let us draw near to You in faith as our Father and fortress.

Deliver us from this disease, we pray, and let your glory fill the earth as you respond to our prayers.
In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:20

God bless you Dear One, as you go to war in Jesus’ strong name!

I love you and miss you already!
